International pressure for Wall St. regulation, thanks for the advice

Mar 31st, 2009 | By Mike | Category: International Affairs, Issues, Obama

President Nicolas Sarkozy, the President of France, has threatened to walk out of the G20 summit if the United States does not increase its regulation of Wall Street. Really? Because none of us realized it was a lack of regulation that led to the demise of our economy. Seriously though, the posturing of these countries, [...]

The Florida Whig Party is hosting another online webinar. This time, attendance in limited to 25, so be quick! Here is the information you will need:
The response was very nice from everyone regarding the first national online webinar we hosted for the Modern Whig Party.
One person suggested another online discussion. As such, you’ll find [...]

Overstepping his bounds: Obama ousting a CEO

Mar 30th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Auto Industry, Obama, TARP

President Obama has to make a choice. Nationalize these companies that are “too big to fail” or keep his hands out of their business. By ousting Rick Wagoner, the CEO of GM today, the current administration is showing its inability to handle the current economic crisis. You can’t have it both ways, trying to keep [...]

Veterans paying for healthcare? Not gonna happen.

Mar 29th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Obama, Veterans Affairs

It came to my attention here that some people interpreted my report card of Obama’s speech as an assessment of what he is actually doing. As I mentioned in the article here, my aim was to assess only what he said in his speech. That said, there have been reports of President Obama trying to [...]

Modern Whig has first national webinar!

Mar 26th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Events, Webinar

Tonight was the first national webinar for the Modern Whigs. I would like to tip my hat to Paul Truesdell of the Florida Modern Whigs for organizing tonights event. He did a great job.
For the most part, the webinar was focused on where the Modern Whigs currently stand. Some of the state chairmen chimed in [...]

NYC increasing MTA prices, sounds like a nail in the coffin to me

Mar 26th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: NYC, Stimulus

This is somewhat of a local issue for me, but I’m sure it translates to many other major cities. NYC has received $24.6 billion in stimulus money, but for some reason the budget proposal passed yesterday is severely increasing our mass transit system. Apparently the $24.6 billion figure was $3 billion more than what was [...]

Report Card: Obama’s News Conference

Mar 25th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Issues, Modern Whig, Obama

There are already countless stories covering what was said at Obama’s news conference, so I am not going to go in to the details of what he said. Instead, I am going to rate what he said against the Modern Whig tenets. I will be grading what he has SAID, not necessarily what he will [...]

TOO BIG TO FAIL … ?

Mar 24th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Humor

This isn’t news, but it made me laugh. For anyone who is lost, this is the Death Star from Star Wars. Irony at its best.

Obama tightening Mexican border security

Mar 24th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Mexican Border, Modern Whig

One thing I never quite understood about President Bush is that he was so staunch on stopping terrorist on the other side of the earth but he never took a strong stand on Mexican border security. The virtual fence was a meager attempt at controlling illegal immigration, but has many critics that believe it will [...]

AIG executives have a conscious?

Mar 24th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: AIG, TARP

CNN has reported that about $50 million of AIG bonuses have been returned. This is about the smartest thing these guys could have done, considering the death threats they have been receiving. Hopefully more AIG bonus recipients will follow suit and this money will be returned to AIG. As I have mentioned before, I don’t think we should have legally taken back the bonuses, but I do believe they are doing the right thing by returning these bonuses on their own free will.
