Florida MWP: Whig or Republican?

Oct 30th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Modern Whig | Bookmark and Share

It has been some time since I have made a post. However, I have been keeping up to date with the Modern Whig Party. A major issue I have with the MWP is that it lacks a central authority to determine how the party presents itself and the views that it wants to support. Because of this, you see several dissenting opinions on political topics. One MWP website I visit often is the Florida Modern Whig Party, but I have become increasingly worried about what is published there in the name of the MWP.   My qualm with the folks at the Florida MWP is their apparent support for several right-wing views and their consistent ability to find flaws only in their local Democratic politicians. Let me give a couple examples:

Rush Limbaugh: First off, anyone defending this guy is a Republican. But let’s put that aside and concentrate on the story. The Florida MWP states that by dropping Rush from the bid for the Rams they are being hypocritical. Then it becomes more of a rant that this will result in a drop of ticket sales that will cripple the NFL (I wish, then I could finally afford to go to a game!). Finally, it ends on a small note about how ACORN is destroying our country (How are these related? I still can’t figure that out). Now, let’s put our thinking caps on for a minute and think about this from a business and sports enthusiasts stand point. Our friend Rush is a very well known player in politics. However, for all the people that love him there are two that hate him. Adding him to the bid for the Rams immediately caused controversy and I heard more about Rush than I did about the Rams. It seems like a logical move to remove this man from the equation so the deal can go through and everyone can make money and players won’t have to quit because they are playing for a bigot. Maybe some day we’ll even take the Rams as a football team seriously. But for now, I would much rather keep my politics separate from my sports. Sports are for entertainment and mixing entertainment with politics just seems like a horrible idea. This post seemed more like a regurgitation of Rush then it did a forward thinking Modern Whig and I want nothing to do with it.

Time to Retire: Now here is a gem. Do I agree that the woman with the bobblehead looks ridiculous? Absolutely! There are plenty of people in politics that don’t belong there and from this small sample I would agree she is one of them. However, the logic used by the Florida MWP for her dismissal is nothing short comical. The last time I checked, OPEC was responsible for the price of gasoline. That price is based on something called “supply and demand”, a common economic principle familiar to many. Comparing the price of gasoline before and after the presidents terms in office is akin to comparing the amount of rainfall during that time period. For the most part, the President has NO influence. In fact, Bush made several trips to Saudia Arabia to try to get a reduction in oil prices when they were outrageously high during his term (they ignored him). Also, if you are going to talk about gas prices, you need to look at the overall picture. Let’s use some real facts. Take a look here and here. First we have the average gas price over the past year. It clearly shows a sharp decline in gas prices right before Bush left office. Did he magically convince OPEC to drop the price of gas during this period? No. The economy was failing and people stopped driving. Demand down, supply up, we get lower prices. The second tells an even better story. In constant 2007 dollars, gas prices during the Bush years spiked to their highest level since Reagan was in office. My point is that this post is a clear perversion of the data and clearly paints the Republicans as the gas price crusaders. This nonsense is exactly what I expect from the staunch right-wing Republicans and exactly what makes me scared these people exist in our great country.

I’m not even going to comment on the latest post citing “FoxFaux News”, or how the president is still being referred to Barack Hussein Obama. Just come out as Republicans and let the MWP live in the center.

  1. Hogwash! This post is rife with errors. The Florida Whig Party has gone after both Republicans and Democrats equally. The Modern Whig Party Movement has plenty of former Democrats who are now members of the Modern Whig Movement who are actually still Democrats. The Florida Whig Party has been aggressive in going after Governor Charlie Crist (Republican) and Attorney General Bill McCollum (Republican) in their use of state planes and a lax work schedule; the same is true with the Lieutenant Governor (Republican) and the Chief Financial Officer (a Democrat). The FWP has been aggressive in reporting and informing Floridians about the Fusion Centers across the nation; which were begun under the Bush (Republican) administration. What I find most interesting is that the name of the person(s) doing this site is not listed, nor is their address, or phone number. Now why is that? Cheap shots from the cheap seats are easy to do and this site is another example why the Whig Movement has not grown faster in some states than others. Engagement by sitting on the computer is easy rather than out and about, talking with people and setting up a functional organization. You said: My point is that this post is a clear perversion of the data and clearly paints the Republicans as the gas price crusaders. If that is what you took from that you are simply stupid. Wasserman goes on a rant that gasoline prices will be $3.00 from now on and demands action but when prices fell, she didnt say a thing. This is not about Republicans as gas price crusaders you pinhead, its about hypocrites. You and others across the nation who claim to be Whigs are doing nothing by attacking fellow Whigs who are exposing both Republicans and Democrats as hypocrites, you are merely delaying the growth of the next great political party of the nation. The biggest problem with the overall Whig movement is the desire for some to want all Whigs to walk in lock-step, which is exactly what we in Florida are fighting against. Our candidates are not in full agreement, nor our executive committee. This is something we encourage and yet we seek to find the common ground and compromise. This website like a few others that claim to be holy Whig sites but are in reality, often Democrat or Republican plants seeking to slow the Whig movement. The facts cited are federal facts and we stand by the research. I am willing to debate the person on this website anytime for everyone in the nation to hear on a live Internet debate. Unfortunately, other than knowing who I am, we do not know who you are. What a chick and whipped way of being a Whig leader. Regarding your two links, you omitted the historical gasoline prices that can be downloaded into an excel spreadsheet: http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/wrgp/mogas_history.html

The Florida Whig Party happens to have three candidates for Congress that are running against incumbent Democrats, that is likely the sore spot and rub isnt it. Well Mr., Miss, Ms. or Mrs. Anonymous that just happens to be the way it is. We have several others who are leaning toward an announcement against Republican incumbents, and when they are ready, it will happen.

Recently a Republican in the Whig Party went rogue because of what the national Chairman said and did regarding participation in the national health care debate. Now we have you, who finds specific items on the Florida Whig Website and call us pro Republican and anti Democrat. We must be doing something right as a party overall when both sides are upset.

If this post remains up, I encourage everyone to visit the Florida Whig website at http://www.floridawhig.com and see for yourself. Click on the following links:

http://floridawhig.com/index.php?q=issue/floridas-september-unemployment a discussion about the high unemployment in counties that are controlled by Republicans.

http://floridawhig.com/index.php?q=issue/big-tentacles a discussion about Goldman Sachs and their power with all Administrations in Washington and the Halls of Congress.

http://floridawhig.com/index.php?q=issue/would-it-bother-you-if a discussion about Congressman Boyds son being arrested for illegal immigration, drugs, and weapons and how Mrs. Boyd is connected to Governor Crist.

http://floridawhig.com/index.php?q=issue/nj-paper-endorses-independent Only by breaking the hold of the Democratic and Republican mandarins on the governors office and putting a rein on their power will the state have any hope for the kind of change needed to halt its downward economic, political and ethical spiral A pro Republican statement? I think not.

http://floridawhig.com/index.php?q=issue/few-headlines a series of discussions and reports of Republicans misdeeds in Flordia.

Again, I challenge you to a public debate online and Ill pay for the online time.

  2. I do not know why the special characters appeared in my response, but I have a copy for anyone who wants it. Again, I challenge you to a debate online for everyone to hear. Maybe this will flush your identity out for everyone to see.

  3. Here is another example of our fair and balanced attack on hypocrite legislative behavior in Florida. http://floridawhig.com/index.php?q=issue/little-noticed-provision But then, those words Fair and Balanced, will likely throw you into the abyss and cause you to think that we are all Right Wing Wackos isn’t it. How about talking about real issues in your state rather than focusing on others. Maybe Obama’s comment about picking up a mop would apply in your case, I know it doesn’t in ours; we’ve been swinging away with our mops to clean up the Republicrat Corporatocracy since day one.

  5. Normally I would not even respond to such dribble, but it appears that the author (and I use the tern very loosely) is out to blemish the Florida Whig Party with accusations of being “right wing” or “Republican” or what ever slanted terms they could apply.
For starters, why is Rush Limbaugh such a sore topic with this guy? I get frustrated when someone makes up statistics and then expects everyone to agree. “However, for all the people that love him there are two that hate him.” This goes to the credibility of the writer. I would love to know where he got this statistic. Rush does have the #1 talk show in the country, so he must be doing something right.
The writer insinuates that ACORN is an honest, upright organization when we all know differently. Fox news is worth talking about though since there is a vendetta from the White House for them and any organization or in some cases any individual that dares challenge the position or authority of the president. When did the President of the United States stoop to attacks or name calling with unfavorable news media? This demeans the office and the entire administration. By the way, I thought the president’s name was Barack Hussein Obama. Are you telling me that you are offended by using his real name? What is your problem?
As far as the President not have an influence in fuel prices, every time he proposes and new program or basically just opens his mouth, the stock market drops 200 points. The destruction of our monetary value from his proven to fail policies affects directly the price of the fuel we purchase and his weakness as a figurehead of the country only emboldens OPEC to do just what they want to do.
Understand, we are all our own personalities and stand for varying degrees of compliance with the party stances. Obviously we agree or we wouldn’t be running with the party. We are not mindless robots that do what Nancy Pelosi or Barack Hussein Obama demands, like other organizations.
With the current administration and its actions, I don’t mind saying that I am opposed to almost everything they are doing. Does that make me a Republican? In the authors eyes I am sure he would call me a sympathizer. I call myself a patriot.

  7. I hate Paul McKain and the Florida Whigs

  8. I’m not sure what the thought process behind the “I hate…” posts are, since Mike has shown this is actually the IP of Kellean Truesdell. However, the immaturity of the numerous posts is matched by the vitrol and immature response from both men above in their reaction to the blog post. The MWP is a moderate movement in belief and in action. I’m not sure how all of this would convince me of the level-headedness of Paul McKain or Paul Truesdell. Just my opinion.
