Florida MWP Candidate Paul McKain Represents Republicans, Not The Middle

Nov 2nd, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Modern Whig | Bookmark and Share

My last post was directed at my feelings that the Florida MWP is representing the Republican party instead of the Whigs and middle of the road politics. Paul McKain, the Florida MWP candidate had the following response, unedited. I follow with my response to him:

Normally I would not even respond to such dribble, but it appears that the author (and I use the tern very loosely) is out to blemish the Florida Whig Party with accusations of being “right wing” or “Republican” or what ever slanted terms they could apply.
For starters, why is Rush Limbaugh such a sore topic with this guy? I get frustrated when someone makes up statistics and then expects everyone to agree. “However, for all the people that love him there are two that hate him.” This goes to the credibility of the writer. I would love to know where he got this statistic. Rush does have the #1 talk show in the country, so he must be doing something right.
The writer insinuates that ACORN is an honest, upright organization when we all know differently. Fox news is worth talking about though since there is a vendetta from the White House for them and any organization or in some cases any individual that dares challenge the position or authority of the president. When did the President of the United States stoop to attacks or name calling with unfavorable news media? This demeans the office and the entire administration. By the way, I thought the president’s name was Barack Hussein Obama. Are you telling me that you are offended by using his real name? What is your problem?
As far as the President not have an influence in fuel prices, every time he proposes and new program or basically just opens his mouth, the stock market drops 200 points. The destruction of our monetary value from his proven to fail policies affects directly the price of the fuel we purchase and his weakness as a figurehead of the country only emboldens OPEC to do just what they want to do.
Understand, we are all our own personalities and stand for varying degrees of compliance with the party stances. Obviously we agree or we wouldn’t be running with the party. We are not mindless robots that do what Nancy Pelosi or Barack Hussein Obama demands, like other organizations.
With the current administration and its actions, I don’t mind saying that I am opposed to almost everything they are doing. Does that make me a Republican? In the authors eyes I am sure he would call me a sympathizer. I call myself a patriot.

Hi Paul,

I have several issues with your response, I’ll address them in the order you have written them.

I urge you to find me any poll taken within the last year that has Rush with a unfavorable/favorable ratio less than 1.5. Please, do some research before making statements. Yes, he has a solid 20% of the country that love him, but those are the type of people that turn off the other 80% of Americans from the Republican party. That is exactly what the MWP is trying to avoid.

You must be a politician with the way you suggest I am supporting ACORN. I made no such statement. My only statement was that, in context with the article published by Florida MWP, it didn’t make any sense to mention them. It is a typical topic brought up by Republicans to try to be divisive and drive a wedge between Republicans and Democrats by insinuating ACORN is responsible for the 2008 election. Once again, exactly the type of bogus politics the MWP was meant to avoid.

I watch all news channels, it’s the only way to gain perspective of what is going on. You would be hard-pressed to insist that Fox isn’t a GOP supporter. Something the MWP wouldn’t be fond of.

Yes, Barack Hussein Obama is our President’s full name. However, you typically don’t type out the full middle name of, well, anyone! Again, this is a typical Republican move to try to insinuate that our president is a Muslim. Divisive politics, one of the main reason’s the MWP was formed in the first place.

Do you have any investments? The market has risen tremendously in the past 6 months, so I’m not really sure what you are talking about. Please, check one of the many financial websites and look at the DOW for the past year.

I would hope we are all patriots. The point is, if it looks like a duck and quaks like a duck, it is probably a duck. Given your response you have given me no reason to second guess my initial assessment that the Florida MWP is simply a group of Republicans who have eyed a chance to get in to politics under the guise of “middle of the road” politics. It is a bit offending since I was elated to finally find a party that wasn’t as polarized as the Republicans and Democrats and you have shattered that dream.

On a final note, if you would like to respond directly to the article I would gladly post a link to your response. What you have written here is nothing but off topic attacks. I would like to see a direct response to my assessment of your oil statistics.

Regards,
Mike

  1. Mike,
I am not a very eloquent writer, so I usually don’t respond to articles like this. However, I feel I need to put my thoughts on the FWP down here. I only discovered the MWP about 2 months ago. I was so annoyed and angry about the bickering about ‘morals’ and ‘family values’ between the Republicans and Democrats that I began looking for an alternative. When I found the Whig National Committee’s website and read the underlying planks of their platform, I became quite excited. I still am. I have been reading as much info from Whig sites as possible, whether from blogs, or state party sites, and I have found the Modern Whig Party movement to be sensible and driven.
That being said, I have severe concerns about the Floida Whig Party. They are VERY divisive with their choice of words and choice of topics for their articles. Rather than simply explain why the two major parties are wrong with reasoned arguments and facts, they tend to sensationalize and attack. This is the kind of thing that forced me to look for a new party in the first place.
Now I’m sure that writing this all down will open me to attack and ridicule, but that’s okay. I am still so very excited about getting involved with my state’s chapter of the Modern Whig Party, and I plan on using the FWP as an example of how not to portray our national goals and image as a viable party.
    Thanks.

  2. Hi Kalas,

No need to apologize, I feel the same way. I have been extremely busy at work and unable to maintain the blog like I used to, but reading some of the material at the Florida MWP sent me over the edge. If they are the first group to represent the MWP then I fear it is already doomed. Once associated with that type of behavior we will immediately be thought of as “fringe” or “an arm of the GOP” which is what turns everyone off from Democrats and Republicans in the first place.

    Regards,
    Mike

  3. I completely agree with the above comments. I am very concerned about the attacks and unprofessional devisive nature coming from Florida and the detriment it is taking on the national Modern Whig Party. Even Vincent Endres’s Whigs in Virginia blog has chastised Paul McKain and is now vowing to only refer to McKain by his full name in protest of McKain’s hypocracy.

One thing that led me to the Whigs was that the Modern Whig Party was above attacks and devisive politics. I fit in very closely to the Modern Whig Party and have recruited quite a few people in my state. The Florida Whig Party is ruining that and making me embarrassed to even refer people to the party because I fear people will come across their site. I will NEVER support a hypocrit like Paul McKain who refers to Obama with his middle name. Whigs in Virginia brought up a good point that McKain or the Florida Whig Party doesn’t use any other middle name except Hussein.

Now, the Florida Whigs and McKain will probably attack me for stating my opinion just as they attacked in derisive terms this blog. But that just shows how un-Whig they really are.

  4. These feelings are echoed by me. I will not speak for the Georgia Party though I be in a position to do so. I will speak for me. When we share our state strategy with new members one of the high points is our inability to use negative, and attack style politics. This is because the base that is attracted to the Modern Whig Party is the base unattracted to those tactics. Those tactics are used to feed meat to a excitable extreme base…since our base isn’t excited by such we must keep the high road. In Georgia these kinds of tactics will be punishable within the party. Its that serious to us. I wish it was so with Florida, it is not, they have the right to run their state in their own manner, but they must also recognize that the Modern Whig Brand is one we all hold up, if one of us faulters with our brand, they let down all of us. All we can do is hope they see the error of this tactic and change, if not for the Modern Whig Party, maybe for the sack of the Florida Branch, and the hope of winning seats as moderates.

  5. I hate Paul McKain and the Florida Whigs

  6. That post is not from Mr. Lebowitz. It is *way* more interesting.

That would be the IP address of Kellean Truesdell, someone of relation to Paul Truesdell, our friend at the Florida MWP. A blatant attempt to discredit the site? Or just an immature act? I leave it up to you to decide.

  7. Here’s a recent interview with Paul McKain, in which he states, “Even the party I’m with, they know that when there is a disagreement between me and the party, they lose. They know that.”

I know he’s on the FWP ticket – but that doesn’t mean he’s their puppet.

  8. [...] I recently had a feud with the Florida Whig Party (thankfully no longer a part of the MWP) where their candidate Paul McKain thought Rush wasn’t a bad guy. You can read his comments here. [...]
