To Paul McKain: Rush isn’t that bad?

Jan 14th, 2010 | By Mike | Category: Republicans

Haiti is in ruins after a devastating Earthquake that affected 3 million people in the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Estimates of deaths are as high or exceeding 100,000 people. In the wake of such a tragedy, Rush Limbaugh decided to tell viewers not to donate money. Does this seem like the type of [...]

Surprise result in NY-23

Nov 7th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Elections, Republicans

The race in NY-23 had some interesting results. To recap the situation, Doug Hoffman, running for the Conservative Party, entered the race and drew support from the typical GOP base. This resulted in the moderate Republican, Dede Scozzafava, withdrawing from the race and supporting the moderate Democrat Bill Owens who ended up winning the Congressional [...]

Florida MWP Candidate Paul McKain Represents Republicans, Not The Middle

Nov 2nd, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Modern Whig

My last post was directed at my feelings that the Florida MWP is representing the Republican party instead of the Whigs and middle of the road politics. Paul McKain, the Florida MWP candidate had the following response, unedited. I follow with my response to him:
Normally I would not even respond to such dribble, but it [...]

Florida MWP: Whig or Republican?

Oct 30th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Modern Whig

It has been some time since I have made a post. However, I have been keeping up to date with the Modern Whig Party. A major issue I have with the MWP is that it lacks a central authority to determine how the party presents itself and the views that it wants to support. Because [...]

Steele providing more GOP entertainment

May 22nd, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Republicans

I’m trying to find the time to get back in to covering stories, but I saw this and had to at least provide a link. Think Progress already has a nice synoposis on why Michael Steele put his foot in his mouth when he said that President Obama wasn’t vetted because he is black. Man, [...]

Credit Card Reform: Helping the lazy stay lazy

May 12th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Credit Card Companies

I have been following the credit card reform being championed by President Obama. Then I read this article at The Whig blog about the silence of Vice President Biden. In my opinion, I think the Vice President is dead on opposing this legislation. I’ll do my best to keep this more politically based rather than being a rant.

Huckabee afraid of becoming as “irrelevant as the Whigs”

May 8th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Mike Huckabee, Modern Whig, Republicans

Today Mike Huckabee warned the GOP that if they abandon the social conservatives they will become as “irrelevant as the Whigs”. I had to laugh at the irony, because the GOP embracing the social conservatives is exactly why the Whigs are going to become increasingly relevant. The increasing frequency of these warnings only serve to [...]

GOP Civil War, Rush bringing down the party for his own gain

May 6th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Republicans

I have already mentioned the GOP’s Civil War and Rush Limbaugh is not only instigating the war but spearheading the side of the social conservatives. On Monday Rush accused Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney of “hating” Sarah Palin. He is defending her as the best candidate for the GOP. If you prefer Sarah Palin, that’s great, but by attacking prominent Republicans Rush is only alienating the social conservatives even more. Rush still believes that fiscal conservatives and social conservatives all fall under the same hat of “Republican”, or does he? What many news outlets and Republicans are afraid to say in fear of losing any social conservative audience or voters is that Rush has a stake in keeping social conservatives as the core of the Republican party. Luckily, I’m not a politician and I don’t have much of an audience, so here we go.

White House to release photos of low flying plane over NYC

May 6th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: NYC, Obama

The White House is planning to release photos of the much-discussed Air Force One flight over NYC. The media made a very good point stating that the Obama administration pledged to have a transparent government, then quickly denied access to the photographs taken on your dime. I could have gone without seeing the official photographs [...]

Maine legalizes same-sex marriage

May 6th, 2009 | By Mike | Category: Gay Marriage

Yet another state legalizes same-sex marriage.  Here is what the governor of Maine had to say:
“I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and of equal protection under the law and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage” -John Baldacci
Another blow to the social conservative movement. More to [...]
